Uttarakhand, May 19: A victim of Islamic divorce practice threatened to either convert to Hinduism or commit suicide if she did not get justice in her triple talaq case. She has also sought help from PM Narendra Modi in the case. This case has surfaced from Udham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand where a woman falling victim to the triple talaq sought justice in her case. The victim who has been identified as Shamim Jahan threatened to commit suicide or practice Hinduism if she isn’t given justice.
In a video, triple talaq victim Shamim Jahan on Wednesday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Supreme Court’s intervention in her case. Shamim Jahan was given triple talaq by her husband Asif inside the Gadarpur police station. “After my experience, I think it is better to convert to Hinduism as these things do not happen in Hinduism. The other option is suicide. I have suffered a lot,” she says in the video.
Jahan had married Asif 12 years ago and was given triple talaq just four years after her marriage with him. With some counselling from family elders, and after completing Halala period of 40 days, the two were reunited. However, Asif started physically abusing her just a few days after the reunion between the two.
When Jahan took the matter to the Gadarpur police station, Asif said ‘Talaq’ thrice at the police station while the police looked on.
